I provide private and small group classes in my home studio and larger classes at Studio One Art Center.  Custom designed small party and corporate team building workshops are also available. For additional information please call 510-595-9425 or email at kelleysart@yahoo.com. Times and frequency are flexible, to meet your schedule. Please see below for typical class discriptions.
 
Payments:  First-time students are asked to purchase a group of 4 classes in advance through Pay Pal. Please call or email Kathleen to discuss your interests.  Usually classes are $25-$30 for a two hour class, depending on the number of people.  Advance payment is needed for one-time group workshops and demonstrations  Please go to the Gallery Shop for additional information. 
 

Ceramics

 

General Ceramics--

 

This class offers students the choice to focus on learning specific techniques such as throwing, hand building, textures, carving, etc. or to follow a more structured series of lessons (below).

 

 

Ceramic Techniques--

 A series of classes for developing a wide range of skills including

-decorative surfaces and textures

-slab and coil construction and decoration

-altering thrown pieces

-burnishing, terra sigillata, scraffito, polycrome clay

-lids, handles and cups

-glazes

 

 

Teapots!--

To most potters, Teapots are considered one of the most interesting forms and a great source of creativity.  Start with the basics of how to make a good teapot and then take off to see where your imagination goes! 

 

 

Mata Ortiz Pottery--

Learn authenthic techniques of artists from the northern Mexican town of Mata Ortiz. Using primative tools, artists construct hand-built, burnished pots with finely detailed designs. You can see examples of this pottery on the Ceramics Gallery page.

 

 

Ceramic Drums--

Make your own UDU Drum!  The ceramic Udu drum from Nigeria has been around for centuries.  The name comes from the Ibo Tribe and translates as the word "pot."  This "pot" is easy to make, using a mold and coil hand building techniques. Be a part of drumming circle with pride, knowing that you made your own drum!

You can get your website up and running in one afternoon! Ikebana

 

Japanese Flower Arranging

The Tayou Bunka (multi-cultural) approach to Ikebana welcomes people of many cultures to practice Ikebana. You will learn design principles of both traditional and modern styles including Sogetsu and Ikenobo. Each class includes discussion of design and techniques followed by individual instruction and critiques.  Examples of Ikebana designs can be seen on the Ikebana Gallery page.

 

As a student, you will be eligible to participate in an exhibition and display one or more of your creations.

Perspective Drawing

 

Use of perspective drawing techniques is a valuable tool for creating a sense of depth on two-dimensional surfaces. Whether you are new to perspective drawing or just drawing in general you are welcome to participate in this basic course.  Learn about how perspective is used for drawing people, buildings, interiors and landscapes.

 

 

Freestyle Lessons

 

Awaken your creative spirit!  These are private or small group classes where the student(s) study a wide varity of media (drawing, painting, ceramics, etc.) as their intuition directs.
